Ingredients: SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE Glycerin - Vegetable/Palm Free, Purified Water, Resveratrol

INCI Name: Glycerin, Aqua, Resveratrol Extract

Botanical Origin: Polygonum Cuspidatum (Japanese Knot Weed)

    Useage Levels: Up to 10%

Application: Resveratrol is thought to be one of the most powerful natural antioxidants. It is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory active which make it suitable for a range of anti-ageing products. This plant-based active was first identified in red wine as it is present in the skin of red grapes and is the component responsible for the health benefits of that popular beverage. Resveratrol isn't just found in grapes, ours comes from the Japanese Knot Weed and it is also possible to extract resveratrol from blueberries. It can even be synthetically produced using microbes.

Solubility: Resveratrol can be tricky to solubilise so it is best added to an emulsion. It can be added to the water phase with glycerine, alcohol or propylene glycol to assist in this process.

Stability: Resveratrol is heat stable but breaks down in UV light. It should be stored away from sunlight and products containing this active should be sold in UV protective packaging.

Water soluble. Add to water based products after cooling. Not soluble in oil but can be used in an emulsion

Resveratrol (3,5,4'-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene) is a natural compound found in red grape skin, Japanese knotweed (polygonum cuspidatum), peanuts, blueberries and some other berries. It is a powerful antioxidant produced by some plants to protect them against environmental stresses. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals, which are believed to be the cause of aging. Japanese knotweed is the plant source with the highest resveratrol content. A large amount of resveratrol is produced in the skin of grapes to protect the plant against fungal diseases and sun damage. Grapes grown in humid environments tend to have more resveratrol than grapes grown in more arid environments. The theory behind this phenomenon is that grapes grown in humid environments produce more resveratrol in order to fight damaging fungus (i.e. grapes grown in arid environments do not need to produce as much resveratrol to survive).
